What can I do to save my fence?

My neighbours have stained their side of our fence a dark brown and it’s seeped through in many places and now our lovely fence looks terrible

It was only installed 3 years ago and was done by a proper fencer rather than panels that slot together. There’s so much of it too. It’s about 150ft all together.

Am I resigned to staining our side too now?

As far as I can tell they have only done one coat too so I imagine it will get worse

Did they ask before they painted it? As it’s yours I’d be tempted to go round and complain and say they can do your side to match too….!

No they didn’t ask, apparently they warned DH to move his car in case they got any splatter on it but DH didn’t think to question it

They should have talked to you because that is always a possibility no matter how careful they are, and it doesn't seem like they were too careful.....

They should have also offered to do your side as well. No very good neighbours......

You should think about it and talk to them

If it's your fence and not shared, they had no business doing anything without your permission.

Get round there pronto and invite them, assertively, to come and look at the damage. Then ask them how they're going to fix it.
Then give your DH a shake

DH attempted to wash it off by squirting it with the hose 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s very oily stuff

At the very least have them come and do the side facing you in a stain or colour you like if it isn't a shared fence. And wait until they have finished their side so that you don't have to deal with any more of it seeping onto yours. If it's very small amounts, all be it along a significant length, you could try lightly sanding to get it off so that you don't have to stain it and tell them not to treat their side again now or in the future.

Gosh that would really piss me off.
Bit of sandpaper might help but I would definitely say to them that they have destroyed your side of the fence - I assume their stain will now require maintenance too.
