Pineapple broom tree woes

I have a large pineapple broom tree which we cut back quite severely in late spring. It has recovered well and pruduced new growth. However it's now become overrun with what I think is black fly. It's so sad to see how damaged it is. What can I do to help it? Any ideas?

Gosh that looks bad. I know nothing about that kind of tree but I wipe black fly off with soapy water/or a spray with a splash of fairy liquid in it and take great please in squishing the blasted things.

@Mincepiesallyearround I have done that on smaller plants but this is massive Grin. I wasn't sure if I needed to cut off the affected parts. It's so sad. They're also on my clematis. I might look to see if ladybirds might help!

Blast them off with a hosepipe?

To save others googling, it’s a Cytisus
