Don't think so. Knotweed has the same shaped leaves but they alternate on the stem, not sprout in pairs.
If you can get to the root, a knotweed is bright orange when the root is cut too.

LavenderAskew · 17/07/2021 18:19

No, don't think so. From your picture it looks like there's several shoots coming off from the same place.

Is that right?

Thanks @WithASpider

Here is a pic of a root.. what do you think?

If you've managed to expose the roots; it's not knotweed (it doesn't look like it anyway). Those suckers go deep.

WithASpider · 17/07/2021 18:22

Doesn't look like it!

No, that's definitely not Knotweed.

The stem zig zags and only on shoot off from each node.

bettyfloormop · 17/07/2021 18:28

Phew.. thanks chaps.

Had a mild moment of panic there! I know there is KW in our area of London, but didn't want to see it coming up under the neighbours fence! 😳

Does it have very distinctive white stubby roots? And delicate flowers on top? And can you pull the whole plant out quite easily in moist soil? I have lots of these (see pictures) and they are a bit annoying but nothing you can't deal with. Can't remember the name, will post if I do.

It looks like Houttuynia, it’s a real pain. I planted some about 8 years ago and now continually try to remove it.

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/07/2021 09:55

Enchanters nightshade, Circaea lutetiana. Even young JK is on a larger scale than that. It’s not Houttuynia, roots are wrong. I spent yesterday morning pulling enchanters nightshade from my garden, and yesterday afternoon pulling Houttuynia from my dad’s

WobblyLondoner · 18/07/2021 11:27

Yes, @MereDintofPandiculation has named what I have and what's shown in my picture, thank you. More here plus useful id pictures: images.app.goo.gl/JxF2Nn6mnovz1VqB9

OP do you think is that you have?
