I bought some French bean plants last week. When I went to plant them out I noticed this plant wrapped around one of the French bean plants. I popped it into a pot and it's now frown an orange flower.

What is this mystery freebie I have acquired?

It's a nasturtium.Smile

Nasturtium. They're fab. They can grow a lot more than that. They're annuals.

ahoyshipmates · 15/07/2021 15:17

They are often used as companion planting with vegetables. The flowers and leaves are edible.

Ooh I have a thread with same title a little further down - it’s not a duplicate, just in case people aren’t answering me assuming that!

I'd take a bet that if MN ever compiled statistics on 'most commonly repeated thread name', then "Plant ID Please" would be near the top.Grin

I looked at your thread, Terrazzo, but don't know it. Sometimes it helps if you can show some leaf as well as the flower.

Errol- not as frequently seen as "Line eyes please"!

You're not wrong! I've posted loads of these threads over the years.

Anyway, thanks, guys! Love a freebie plant and I've got the perfect little spot for it!

Scientific name Tropaeolum major, not to be confused with Nasturtium officinale which is watercress.
