Help! What is this killing dd's squash?

And how do we deal with it organically?

Those tiny little black things; we've tried garlic spray, and dd's tried to brush them off with a paintbrush and toothbrush but they won't move. Are they blackfly eggs? Should I buy some ladybirds!

Looks more like sooty mould on sugar from an insect infestation elsewhere on the plant. What’s killing it looks to be lack of nutrients - squashes are greedy feeders

@MereDintofPandiculation, what do you feed your squash with please?

OP, sorry to jump in on your post.

@Tedisateddybear Tomato fertiliser. Though that's grown in a container. When I grew them outside I relied on a rich soil annually mulched.

@MereDintofPandiculation, thank you, I put in lots of manure when I planted them and they keep flowering but then the flowers are dying off. As you can probably tell, I've not done this before Grin
