Planting around arbour

We have just put in a small patio and corner arbour. There is space for flower beds along the back of each bench and trellis at the ends and corner of the arbour. What climbers and bedding plants or shrubs would you put in? It's a sunny spot, protected by a 6 foot fence at one side, an end wall at another and the soil is well draining.

A rose is the obvious one. Apparently you want a climber rather than a rambler - climbers have repeat flowering.
Something fragrant is always nice in a seating area.

Jasmine - you can get a winter one as well as a summer one.

Lovely David Austin climbing rose then grow a later flowering clematis eg viticella up it in a couple of years for a long season of interest. Jasmine would be dreamy too!

Add sweet peas in summer.

I saw iceberg climbing rose on a gardening programme recently so I would go for that, I just need DH to finish some jobs and build something for one to climb on.

Also I would go for a winter flowering honeysuckle

Because it can help feed the bees whilst waiting for spring to arrive
