Hi all

We have a fence which already has a passionflower growing on a small part of it but we need the rest covered, i read that a rambing rose doesnt repeat flower so best to go with a climbing rose, any recommendations? We already have a red one covering a small trellis, so ideally shades of pink or peach etc, anyone know how quick they are at growing and flowering? The one we had is on 2nd year now has a fair amount of roses but we havent been feeding it etc until now, i know they're all different thank you x

I really should start charging commission but David Austin roses can't be beaten IMHO. In terms of climbers, I have Claire Austin which is a white and I've bought St Swithins, a pink, for some friends and they're delighted with it. They're so disease resistant, repeat flower freely and there's masses of different colours and forms to choose from. I'd definitely have a look at their website.

I have another David Austin called Lady of Shalott which flowers persistently even though it's in shade most of the day.

It's not a huge climber - the website says 8 feet - but it covers our 6 foot hedge really well.

The flowers are mostly orange, red-tipped in bud and fading to yellowish-orangey-peach. It's great for cutting, and though the DA website says medium scent mine is wonderful.

Pink perpetue is one of the longest lasting pink flowering climbers.

I have (another David Austin) Tess of the d’Urbavilles. In its third summer now and glorious. Smells amazing too.

I've got a Blush Noisette which has an abundance of clusters of small pink frangrant blooms all summer into autumn or early winter.

I've just ordered DA Lady of the lake which is a repeat flowering rambler for my 10 ft fence. I've also ordered Tess of the D'urbyvilles to go next to it, its a climber. DA had a few repeat flowering ramlbers.

I have three climbing roses (well I have 4 but the 4th I don't know what it is).
Zephirine Drouhin - which has fairly bright pink flowers and smells very strong and old fashioned. In her first year she has many flowers already.
Generous Gardener which has very pale pink blooms and smells delicate, also in her first year and even more flower buds than ZD.
Oh Wow - which has open, not double flowers but is bicoloured and looks quite spectacular - as if someone has splashed pink paint over a white rose. Also in year 1, less flower buds than the other two but was only snuck in at the tail end of the bare root season and has more competition than the others.
