North facing garden planters?

Our paved front garden faces north, but I'd really like to get a couple of planters to make the front of the house look a bit more alive (and have something in the front garden other than the bins!). Any suggestions for what might be a good plant to put in? We have a shared fence on one side and a brick wall dividing us from the access path to the back of the houses on the other. Planters would be against the wall.

Arum lily if you're happy to keep up with watering.
Ferns do well and look very classic.

In my north facing shady planters I have skimmia, heuchera, ivy, elaeagnus, hellebores, honeysuckle, bay, various houseleeks, sarcococca. All doing fine. Not in a planter but I also have a rose next to the house on the north side which appears to be happy.

What sort of size and do you want something evergreen?

We've got red geraniums in ours. They look really cheerful.

Thanks all! I don't know about size yet, I'm very much at the ideas stage of this so I wanted to think about what might work before going mad in the garden centre Grin

I have a fatsia japonica in mine - they are very unfussy plants, and look lovely and lush and jungly.

I have acers. I love the ones with the more delicate, lacey leaves. One called Butterfly is doing well at the moment in a very shady spot.

Maybe some box in there for a bit if structure? We have box balls in our borders and they look good all year round
