Blueberry bush questions

I have a potted blueberry bush that bought this spring. It is finally looking like it might be starting to develop flower buds, which is great, but I’m wondering if the red edges of the leaves mean it’s unhealthy? Inside the plant and where there is new growth, it’s all green, so it’s just the outer leaves that have the red on them. Should I do something to correct this?

Also, how long from this stage of flower budding pictured will it be until the plant might produce some fruit?

The colouration of the leaves is how they should be. Your bud shape looks different from mine so maybe we have different varieties. I will go and photograph mine shortly.

Oh that’s good to know the leaves are the right colour. I’ve been googling all afternoon trying to figure out what variety I have! I remember thinking it looked unique and good at the garden centre but now cannot remember for the life of me what it is. Blush

It looks very healthy.
The fruit is a bit later in the Summer.

I have 3 different blueberry bushes and none look like that I'm afraid!
The flowers develop then drop off and the berry forms from the green bit at the top.
I was told that blueberry bushes need other varieties nearby to cross fertilize, although if you've already got flowers presumably that has happened?

Watch out for squirrels and birds eating the fruit when it's almost ready!

I went to see mine and the fruit is there already, but not ripe yet.

Yours look almost like Goji berries, could it be a Goji rather than a blueberry ?

NormaSnorks · 13/06/2021 21:34

I also checked mine and my fruit is there too (still green though).

@SirVixofVixHall It’s definitely a blueberry bush unless it was very blatantly missold by the garden centre! It was a new variety but I can’t remember the name. You are right that it is unusual!

Norma yours has lots of fruit !!

NormaSnorks · 14/06/2021 12:02

@SirVixofVixHall - yes, this one was new this year, so obviously was well-cultivated by the garden centre.
My other two are much more leggy with less fruit.

I think I'm too much of a wimp to hard prune them at the end of the season, but apparently this would be a good thing!

SirVixofVixHall · 14/06/2021 12:38

I haven’t ever pruned mine, I will try it this year. I think mine would be happier in a sunnier spot too, maybe I should move it.

I have two different varieties, both grown in pots. The first one is Vaccinium and prolifically fruits earlier. The second crops later, can’t remember the name.
OPs blueberry certainly looks a different variety.
