Weed removal from block paving

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 12/06/2021 15:48

The developers who built our house decided in their wisdom to block pave the drive and road - it is now a weedy mess and quite a sizeable area Sad

The neighbours all do their bit around their drives and keep glaring at us like we’re bringing the house prices down.

Does anyone have any reliable, fast and sustainable solutions?

Are these any good?

The reviews aren't very good for this. We just spray weed killer on every so often.

Spray the weeds, will take a couple of weeks to see a difference though

anything that disturbs the surface brings weed seeds to the light, and gives them a nice loose tilth to grow in.

"Pathclear" will kill weeds, and leaves a thin film on the surface of the soil to prevent new seeds germinating. If you pull up weeds, hoe or scrape the surface, you disturb this layer and they will grow again.

If you have a lot of big weeds, you can use Glyphosate and (only) after they have died, cut them off flush with the soil. Once there are no large weeds, use Pathclear the next time. Watering can, not sprayer.

Jet wash the whole thing with a high pressure jet wash and blast the weeds away. Put down a pre-emergent to stop new seeds germinating. Be ready with the weed killer for the few with deep roots which will pop back up. Then once everthing is stable and you have killed perennial weeds, and stopped annual weeds emerging - then SEAL for longevity.

This ones professional grade and the best hands down www.resiblock.com/.

Alternatively hire someone to do all the above as its quite a process.

We were looking at getting a pressure washer for the back of the house so that might be a goer, no to the karcher then - are those electric weed burners any good?

Will defo seal it afterwards

jet-washing is not good for paving, especially blocks/bricks as it blasts out the sand or grout that holds them firm.

So refill, and then seal so you can do a light wash without issues.
