Does anyone recognise this? It's so lovely and has been blooming for months.

can you post a zoomed in pic of the blooms?

DogsSausages · 06/06/2021 16:45

Is it an azalea

AdaColeman · 06/06/2021 16:49

At a guess, Weigela just going by the colour and the long flowering comment.

SkunkButtRug · 06/06/2021 17:56

I can't get much closer unfortunately. It's in my neighbour's garden.

Thank you for your guesses though, it's a good start!

How big would you say the flowers are? I agree it could be either an azalea or a weigela - if it's an azalea the flowers will be bigger - weigela flowers are not much bigger than the last bit of your thumb IYSWIM.

giletrouge · 06/06/2021 18:20

Course you could ask your neighbour - if they are into gardening they'll probably be delighted to tell you and flattered that you like their plant - gardeners are like that (mostly). Smile

SkunkButtRug · 06/06/2021 18:41

Ah, well I would ask but he's away again for work. The flowers are small, I would say no bigger than 50p coin. The leaves are tiny and oval shaped.

I've posted another photo but I'm afraid it's still rubbish.

Ohh tricky. Here's azalea leaves and weigela leaves. They're pretty similar. 50p size flowers could be either. I'm veering towards azalea but I could be wrong of course! Second pic where you can see a couple of flowers is the weigela.
I've got a feeling if it was a weigela the leaves would be out more than they are (no expert).

Thank you!

The leaves are a bit different aren't they. The leaves are smaller I think and rounder on the neighbours bush. The bees are all over it too.

I wish I had a zoom lense!

I thought it looked like cherry

BSJohnson · 06/06/2021 23:22

The bees’ enthusiasm and the current copious flowers make me think escallonia - but the leaves look much too small, and I’ve not seen an escallonia grown with bare lower limbs like that.

RampantIvy · 06/06/2021 23:25

Isn't it a bit early for escalonia?

BSJohnson · 06/06/2021 23:42

Good point - depends where you are, I guess. There’s a lovely pink one open and attracting bees down the road, but it’s London, so probably a bit ahead of other places...
