When do I cut this dead bit off my lavender?

Hi!

New gardener here. I planted out a lavender in a new raised bed in April and it didn’t do well. I thought it had died but has new growth around the edges and flowers coming. Do I prune out the dead middle bits? Would I do it now or at the end of summer?

Thanks so much

I'd cut the dead wood off now, then the plant can focus on the healthy parts.

Cut if off now. You'll probably find it has broken off at the bottom when transported or planted. It should throw some new shoots off during the summer. Then hard prune again after flowing, late August, early Sept.

Anything that is completely dead you can cut whenever you like. That applies to anything. As long as you only cut dead stuff, and not back into live stuff, the plant won't know about it, and disease can't get transported into the plant tissue.

Perfect, that’s really helpful. Thanks so much
