Please help me plan this small bit of flower bed!

Hi - gardening novice here. I have this bit of flower bed (photo taken from upstairs) that is up by the house and the start of our narrow side bed.
It is about 2.3m from fence to front and about 1.5m from the path to the philadelphus in the picture although it’s a funny shape so those are probably max measurements.
The bed is on a slight slope and is mostly in sun. Clay soil.
We’re off to the garden centre later to get some bark mulch for it but would like to get some plants too. I think I want some salvias (Monty likes those so they must be good!) but what else can I plant?
Thank you.

You also need to think about winter, so have a basic structure of evergreens. Personally I'd have another evergreen against the fence - Photinia Red Robin is pretty reliable. I have a Camellia in similar soil and that's doing well also. Maybe some climbers also to hide the fence a bit.

I wouldn't rush off to the garden centre without a plan in mind. Pin some ideas onto Pinterest and get a feel for what you like, then check on plant websites to see what works in your soil.

That looks ripe for some lavender edging.

How about a cistus (sun rose) or potentilla? They both like sun. Maybe a rosemary, and some pinks. Like a pp's suggestion of lavender too, but get English lavender rather than the French one which is less hardy.

I have very clay soils and the only think I cannot get to grow are salvias.

Delphiniums and wallflowers currently doing particularly well.

What kind of colours do you like? And what style of planting?

If it’s near the kitchen I would mix in some herbs. Rosemary, sage, thyme and oregano look and smell lovely and are useful for cooking.

You may have to add some grit to clay soil for herbs though!

Just lost a long reply! 🤬
Herbs have come out of there and are going elsewhere but in pots as I was fed up of the mint and chives bullying everything else!
Did everything I shouldn’t and hared off to the garden centre and bought three of a few random things. All purples and whites though! Here it is planted and mulched. Still loads of room for more plants so watch this space! Might put a daphne in the gap on the left - think everything else flowers etc the same time (rookie error!) so will need to very that a bit.
