Pond liner is floating....

Annoyed.

I dug a hole for a preformed 60l pond liner. It was difficult getting it at the right depth for the surrounding stones, and level, but with the aid of sharp sand, I succeeded.

I 1/4 filled it to anchor it while I back filled with more sand and soil from the hole.

But I made an error, I used hose water to push the fill down and into nooks and crannies. Initially, it was fine, but 4 hours later, the liner has lifted up out of its hole by about 4" and is basically floating!

The issue is the bottom 1/4 of the hole is pure clay so has formed a pool of its own, I guess.

I have to wait til the hose water drains away, take the pond-former out and start again, I guess. 😡

Next time I'll fill the liner up with much more water, and won't hose in the fill.

But what a waste of several hours.

Can you temporarily put something denser into the hole to push down the liner and displace the water from underneath? I may be visualising it wrong but I don't see why you'd need to start again.

Thanks, errol. I think my problem will be that the hose water will have stormed a slurry of sand and soil that will have washed down from the sides and formed a layer in the bottom of the hole, which I will have to dig out by hand; otherwise, the liner will sit too high in its hole.
