Can’t really tell, but the second pic looks a bit like sweet pea?

Shylo · 04/06/2021 22:09

They look a bit like sweet peas to me .... did you sow them?

Jalapinot · 04/06/2021 22:11

A bit random but they were a free gift with some other plants I ordered and weren't labelled. For love nor money can I remember where I ordered them from

No idea - but I’ve seen an app that can apparently ID plants!

Jalapinot · 04/06/2021 22:15

Ooh I'll have a look on the App Store. I keep looking at the think little shoots and wondering if they are going to do anything exciting.

Shylo · 04/06/2021 22:25

The little shoots are tendrils to help the plant climb .... I definitely think sweet pea :)

Jalapinot · 04/06/2021 22:29

Ooh exciting! Can't wait to see what colour they are

I love my plant app

it thinks this is lambs quarters

Level75 · 04/06/2021 22:30

Google lens can ID plants with a fair degree of accuracy

ErrolTheDragon · 04/06/2021 22:34

They look a lot like some of my sweet peas, a dwarf variety called Sugar and Spice which are suitable for baskets rather than wanting to climb tall. There are other such varieties, as yours are in a basket hopefully they're this type of thing.

Those are really pretty! This is the first year I've had a garden, I went a bit mad and planted lots of stuff without really knowing anything.
The beds are starting to look really pretty but I've definitely bunched some of them too close together, still a good lesson for next year.

I'd not heard of that so looked it up... doesn't really seem like something that would be in a hanging basket. And it doesn't have tendrils.

But I like learning traditional names so thanks!Smile

SummerWillow · 04/06/2021 23:06

My plant app also says lambs quarters! Never heard of it but some varieties can be toxic and is regarded as a weed.

Jalapinot · 04/06/2021 23:13

I do hope it's a sweet pea and not lambs quarters. Time will tell I suppose.

I've just remembered I've got a photo of my sweet pea basket from last week - not beautifully pearled with water droplets like your photos but you can see how it compares.
And I'd be curious to know what the plant ID apps say it is.Grin

Another sweet pea vote from me.

3beesinmybonnet · 05/06/2021 00:03

Also looks like sweet peas to me as well.

But lambs quarters aka fat hen is very nutritious. Our vegetable plot was full of it last year and we ate loads of it. Apparently cooking destroys the toxins.

My plant app says yours is sweet pea 🙂

Here's a daytime photo and a photo of my overly bunched up bed Grin

Practically twins, except you've got a much nicer basket.Grin

Hopefully those apps will now be able to identify yours correctly. I think this is a bit of an object lesson in their limitations - I'm sure they'll improve over time, but at the moment they seem to get things wrong as often as not judging from how they do on this type of thread. One thing they're missing is nous... they can't think 'hm, but is that plant likely to have been sent as a free gift?'.

WeatherwaxOn · 05/06/2021 09:19

I'm going with sweet peas based on the long stalks I can see.
I belong to FB group about plants and loads of people have apps to id them. I'd say they're about 60% accurate.
I'm old school and use "plant keys" (books with step by step processes) to identify wildflowers.
Garden plants are usually easier, but I don't know if there are apps for those.

TheoMeo · 05/06/2021 09:24

Some of the leaves have a straight edge - could birds be pecking bits off? Or maybe not either the cat there!

Jalapinot · 05/06/2021 09:26

We've got lots of bees visiting but no birds. My two cats stalk the garden and scare them off Sad
