Hi! In a new garden and just learning what all the plants are. Any thoughts on this big bush we have maybe chest height so far. I was wondering if it was a hazel tree? Many thanks.
Also, is there an easy free app or something I can use to identify flowers?
Thanks so much

There’s plenty of free apps, but use them as a starting point only. They can make huge mistakes, and have no knowledge that they have done so.

Yes, it's a hazel. If it starts to get too big, you can prune them back quite hard in late winter/early spring.

Ooh nice. I have this in our front gardan although it's a bush just up to my waist in height.
Is it good to keep? We are planning on new hedging plants along the front edge and this hazel bush is right in the way so my hedge border will not look uniform once it's all planted up. But I am quite fascinated by the idea of having a Hazel tree/bush..

Hazel takes well to pruning so works well in a mixed hedge. Traditionally it was coppiced - cut back to base every few years to provide a regular supply of straight poles. Left to itself it grows into a large bush with catkins every spring.
