Might need some clues. Is it evergreen? Has flowers?

HJL400 · 27/05/2021 19:07

Tho might hazard a guess at a rhodedendron?

Bigdreamer9 · 27/05/2021 19:08

Sorry, I don’t know much about gardening atall. Having our garden done and found it buried in all the shrubs we removed. It has purple flowers.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 27/05/2021 19:32

Is it too late to be a camellia?

DogsSausages · 27/05/2021 19:36

Its a Rhodedenron

Bigdreamer9 · 27/05/2021 19:44

Thankyou all, my neighbour thinks Rhododendron too. They’re poisonous to dogs so we’ll be getting rid then!

Don't throw it away. Offer it for free on your local Facebook group

Are they? I've got a couple, and a healthy 15yo dog... not sure they're problematic in practice.

A purple rhodo may be the common 'feral' type which can grow enormous and not great for wildlife so it may not be worth keeping anyway.

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/05/2021 22:16

Is it too late to be a camellia? Not a camellia if it's purple.

Bigdreamer9 · 27/05/2021 23:04

@ErrolTheDragon I googled it after they mentioned they’re poisonous for dogs and it is true. We have a very naughty dog who eats/licks everything they can so in our case it’s best not to keep it.

I am surrounded by rhodos in Vancouver as they are native and grow like mad. I have never heard a dog being harmed. I agree that is likely a rhododendron. I wouldn't worry about the dog thing really.

GingerScallop · 28/05/2021 04:34

Another vote for a rhododendron

Another one saying they are invasive - and nothing can grow beneath them since they poison the soil around them. Hybrids have this bred out of them (mostly).
