Does anyone know what this is? It was growing abundantly in drifts in some local woods and was just so beautiful. The flowers were perhaps "lawn daisy" sized.

Wild flower/plant ID please!

Oh, oh, I'm pretty sure I know this as I asked a friend on a walk last week! Check for Greater Stitchwort pictures.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2021 16:13

That looks like it! Thank you :)

I could find similar flower but on the wrong stems. It was just so pretty. I don't think I've ever spotted it before.

There’s a great app called Picture This which identifies plants for you.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 24/05/2021 16:21

She said you can recognise it because the petals come in pairs. Interesting, because I certainly don't remember seeing it in such quantities before, so it must be having a good year!

bookbuddy · 24/05/2021 16:33

Could be wild Anemones Hmm

Or, there's Mumsnet 😂😂

I did look at the app before but I'm too mean to pay the annual subscription as I don't often want plants identified.

Yes, it seems to have gone mad this year! It is so pretty.Smile

I think the non-premium version of the app is free, isn’t it? I just keep clicking “cancel” when it asks me if I’d like to pay.

Nor the flowers.

Greater stitchwort is right; there are a few somewhat similar flowers which it's worth comparing and contrasting with e.g field mouse ear (lovely name), and white campion - the leaves are quite different but at a passing glance the flowers could be confused.

You can buy plug plants from Naturescape and other wildflower suppliers. Chiltern used to do seeds, don’t know if they still do. It’s a lot less fragile than it looks
