How long can rainwater be stored?

I spontaneously collected probably 5 litres rainwater with a not quite clean garden tray. It's stored in an air tight Ikea container.

How long can I stored it to water plants?

There will be a 10 days or so dry spell coming- it will be fine til then

You won't make the plants ill Grin we only clean out our water butt every few years Blush

I have no idea how long the water in our water butt has been stored, and use it all the time. We have never had a problem with the plants in the garden.

Obviously with the recent weather I haven't used the water butt for ages.

When I use the water in containers, if it's long term every three months to refresh the water.

From the plants' point of view there's no limit on how long you can store it.
