Re-growing fennel from scraps

Have googled this to no avail. I love fennel, and have started letting the bottom part of the bulbs sprout in water. Once they turn brown, what should you do next? Plant in soil? Leave in water but cut off the brown bits? TIA for any pointers.

If you plant it it'll grow more leaf and eventually flower and set seed. Which may or may not grow more fennel. The leaves have a nice aniseedy taste. You could sow some seed now if you have a garden.

Thanks Barking. I have some seeds that are sprouting well in a balcony box, but wanted to try starting from bits of bulb. The bottoms feel quite slimy, and I just wonder if they are going to rot once planted.

I never thought to do this before, but I think the leaves look so pretty! Lovely as a salad topping too.
