What is this growing in my lawn?

I try to mow round wild flowers, bulbs etc that pop up but I’m not sure what this is and it’s covers a couple of meters square. Don’t remember it from last year either, very puzzling.

What is this growing in my lawn?

Aren't they clovers?

Purslane?

FreedomFromLockdown · 26/04/2021 20:56

Not clover, it has very round leaves that open out one above the other. Don’t know purslane but looking at google images it doesn’t look like it but maybe there are different types. Will leave it for now and see if it flowers.

Creeping jenny? It will have yellow flowers if it is.

Again don’t know creeping Jenny, it could be but mine has very dark green leaves and google pictures look like it’s leaves are paler.

Not clover, clovers have trefoil leaves, this has simple leaves in opposite pairs. Creeping Jenny is the best suggestion yer, but it’s normally a pioneer plant spreading into bare places. Best bet is to let it grow until it flowers

Thanks all, will wait and see if it has the yellow flowers on to confirm. It sounds like it might be a bit of a thug to have in the lawn but maybe useful to move into a sandstone wall that tends to sprout weeds.
