Bare root roses, my first time

Always had pot grown in the past and never had a problem.

This year I ordered seven bare root roses from two different suppliers and planted them mid March. How soon should I expect signs of life? It's been very cold overnight, warm in the day with virtually no rain.

I'm scared I've wasted a lot of money ☹️

I planted five late March, all bar one stems are turning green and have small leaves, the odd one is less green but will hopefully be similar.

I planted some three weeks ago, and no signs of anything

They are busy working away underground getting their root system established. Quite often they don’t produce much top growth in their first season. Some gardeners remove first season blooms but I never have.

Are you keeping them well watered OP?

TwoBlondes · 26/04/2021 21:04

@Daisydoesnt yes, I'm watering every day.

Watering every day is too much! A good deep water twice a week should do if they're in the ground. I have two planted last month which are both now in leaf. I'd ease off the watering, but make sure they're well mulched.

Posting on here about a gardening problem is obviously the horticultural equivalent of phoning IT for help....most of them are now miraculously showing signs of life. Thanks everyone.
