Water butt help

The house we have moved into has water butt's which we will use to water garden. Realised yesterday that while the butt is raised on a stand the tap is still too low to get a watering can or bucket underneath. Can I just attach a short length of hose to the butt and use that to fill a watering can? Will standard hose just push on, maybe a jubilee clip to keep it attached? Or do I need something else? Don't want anything that would mean having to empty the butts (2 quite large butts joined together, only one has a tap)

I sometimes attach the hose to mine. I just warm the hose nozzle up in warm water and it slots over. Jubilee clip would be secure though.
The butt does need to be full to push the water up hill into the watering can though.

You can also just take the lid off and dip the can into the top.
