Hi; my potatoes have been chitting along nicely but we held off planting due to the cold snap. Is it ok to plant today? Forecast looks to show improving temperatures and above zero at night after tomorrow. The part of the garden they will go in is quite sheltered from frost and the peas we planted a couple of weeks ago are doing well.

Yes, potatoes can be planted now as they will likely not show any leaves above ground for a few weeks. Any leaves are then earthed up with soil so will be fine. Any heavy frost, then you can cover the bed if you want to with fleece or anything you have to hand. A tiny bit of frost damage anyway will not really hurt them, will just set them back a little. Happy planting!

My potatoes are rubbish at chitting. They are in a cool room on a West facing windowsill.
