Can anyone recommend me bristly leaved plants?

Really thick, rough leaves that slugs really hate and won’t dare cross...?
If that exists?!

Oh and it has to be non toxic, I have children that taste everything!

I need something to plant with my Swiss chard to stop the bastards eating them!
I don’t want to use pellets and wool pellets and the like are not cost effective!

I have heard of those but suspect that the amount i would need would be too expensive.
I was hoping to use plants as the cost would be much lower.
Plus, I don’t really want to kill them if possible.
