Is it worth keeping? Articles I read say it needs more sun. We’re putting a fence just behind it so I’ll see how it gets on

Depends what type it is. I have 3 and all are worth keeping. They make good cover for small birds and can be pruned hard of they get out of hand. Mine flower even with shade for half a day.

I have one in part shade which looks exactly like yours, and has yet to flower. I don't know if that because of its age (3yrs) or position. It is the offspring in one in my parents garden which is certainly worth it - smells amazing. Theirs, however, gets considerably more sun.
