Have a ruined this plant?

I have a Oleander plant in my garden, potted. It was getting a bit out of hand, growing in the wrong direction so I pruned it a bit and also cut a couple of the branches.

My mum came over and said I have ruined the plant and it won’t grow back - I have heard they are quite hardy, so thought it would be ok. Anyone have any advise?

It will be fine. Removing old branches at the base will encourage new growth and give a bushier plant. Ideally you should have pruned it September or October so you might have less flowers this year but it will survive.
