Magnolia

I'm expecting delivery of a new Magnolia within the next couple of weeks, have chosen and prepared a sheltered spot for it. The only thing I'm worried about is the expected temperature drop over the next couple of days, to -1c over night. Should I keep it potted until it warms up, or will it be fine if I plant it out, should I cover it in fleece overnight?

I’d keep them potted and move them inside overnight .

Magnolia is hardy so unless the ground is frozen or there is a howling gale, then you can plant it straight out. It will have been outdoors all winter at the nursery anyway, so it would be a mistake to molly-coddle it.

Depends how big it is. Ask the supplier for starters. Non-stellata magnolias can get bud blight from frost but will survive. I'd fleece it if small and keep it sheltered outside.
