Salvias

Hello. I had some beautiful salvias last year but this year there is no sign of growth and the base of the plant looks dead. Is it just too soon for them or could I have lost them to winter frost? I had some amistad, nemerosa and love and wishes varieties. Thanks!
@Whitney168 you're my kind of gardener. I have 35 lavender from last year in pots from a similar online event.....
Let’s not talk about the fact that I also ordered some more dahlias, when I didn’t know where on earth I was going to put the ones I already had ... 🤣

@Whitney168 I have another 8 dahlia to pot up but I haven't got any more space in the greenhouse. I've been eyeing up the bathroom windowsill, next to the melon plants I started in a whim in January from the seeds of a particularly tasty melon we had from the supermarket..

@MightyMeerkat and others, can we please have an update?

OliviaRwhite · 29/04/2021 20:21

One (out of three) of my old Amistad have started to come back. My new Amistad is doing ok, and none of the black and blue ones are showing signs of life (there were slime trails all over the one I saw the first bit of green on, so slugs have prob finished them off)!

My nemerosa ones are coming back. No signs of life with my love and wishes. And nothing with the black and blue. Really disappointing.

Some of my other "hardy" perennials have died too Sad

The one token leaf that was there all winter on my Hot lips Salvia has been joined by a few more. It's really limping, but it may come back. We ripped one out previously that was in the same spot that was "dead" and I'm thinking now we just didn't give it long enough to come back. Everything else in the garden is greening up and this is very slow, but it's only the end of April. Just about the supposed end of the frost period were I am in the south East ( not costal) , but in many other places can be mid to end of May. Let's hope May is my Salvia's month. I have planted a few small bedding plants just from B&Q also called salvias, quite excited to see the difference.

My love and kisses is now flowering in the (unheated) greenhouses and I've a red salvia which started to flower after I moved it from the greenhouses to the cold frame.

I ordered some amistad plug plants to try again - they were fabulous a few years but died over winter so this fine I'm going to leave them in a pot and drop them into the border and forget about them I'm sure

Sarah Raven sent me a nemorosa Ostfriedland which is in its pot awaiting planting.

Still waiting on 6 more from her. And some eryngium.
