Lupines - help please

So, I’ve never attempted to grow lupines before, but they looked pretty when I was picking up some shopping, and attempted to plant some bulbs. There were already white stringy growths coming out when I planted them, and some of them have started to turn green at the tips, but they do not look at all good, or healthy. Is there any way to save them?

Lupin bulbs? Lupins grow from fat little black seeds.

Those don't look happy! Have they plenty of sun? What soil are they in?

Lupins are fairly tough so I should persevere.

Lupin seeds. Pencil for scale.

When you say bulbs, do you mean bare roots? With bare roots sometimes they start weak, pale growth in the packet. Once planted, new, stronger shoots should appear eventually

The leaves look like lupins but they look like they haven't had enough light.

Yes, more bare roots / tuber type things I planted. They came in a small bag of dry soil, so they would have had hardly any light when they started sending out shoots in the packet. Will keep them and see how they go.

Hmm, I’ve only ever grown Lupins from seed, usually sown in the summer to overwinter and flower the following year. I didn’t know you could buy them in bags.
I’d just keep looking after them, pot them on when they’re larger, but not expect any flowers till next year.

I wish I could grow lupins. I've tried numerous times, something always eats them.

My "pet" slugs (not) love a meal of lupins, unfortunately.
