Apple tree advice

I planted an apple tree in late 2019. Was wondering whether I need to cut back on this branch close to the base?

I'd be grateful for any advice!

I would. It would improve the shape of the tree and you could plant some spring bulbs underneath ( if you wanted!)

You don't need to but you could do. Then in later years concentrate pn keeping an open shape, not letting the centre get too crowded. The RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) has good advice on pruning.

I can't see the picture in detail; is that side-shoot from below the graft? If so, then definitely prune it.
I note that your tree is within a lawn. One of my apple trees had a low branch and it made mowing round the base of the tree difficult so I lopped the branch off.
