Planting trees in a very narrow bed?

We are very overlooked at the back and thinking about planting 2 or 3 pleached trees against our back garden wall for screening.

However, the flowerbed there is very narrow - only 40cm, and some of that has the wall foundations in.

Would pleached trees survive there? If so, any particular variety to aim for?
