Forgive the beginner question but is this Viburnam Bidnantense Dawn?

Walked past it today and omg the scent! Was just beautiful.

Thanks!

looks almost like Daphne which has a lovely scent at this time of year, but my Daphne is much much smaller.

florentina1 · 11/03/2021 00:00

I think it is a prunus or flowering cherry . Not sure which one but we have lots in blossom here.

NanTheWiser · 11/03/2021 12:02

Definitely not Prunus, it certainly looks like a Daphne.

MereDintofPandiculation · 11/03/2021 12:46

It very clearly has 4 petals, which is right for Daphne.

Viburnum and Prunus both have 5 petals.

Andante57 · 11/03/2021 12:50

Daphne Odora?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/03/2021 12:51

Where are you? 😧

Mine has no blossoms on at all yet!

Walkingwounded · 11/03/2021 17:30

In the north! (Newcastle). That is why I thought maybe Viburnum since i saw that it flowers very early.

Thanks, I will try Googling Daphne and Daphne Odora. The scent is amazing - I walk past it every day and it’s like walking through a cloud of perfume.

Thankyou.

It could be viburnam carlesii although mine isnt out yet. Not with only 4 petals it couldn't.

stayathomegardener · 12/03/2021 11:39

Daphne but far taller than expected.

stayathomegardener · 12/03/2021 11:41

Possibly this one, up to 3M high.

I think it looks most like the Daphne jaqueline postill. Is about 2.5m high, looks like a tree.

Back there on Monday so going to take your photos and compare! (And hope not to be accused of suspicious behaviour in the process).

Then get onto a website and order one. The scent is amazing, did I mention that....

Thankyou all!
