Hello all. I'm a newbie to gardening. I want to get rid of weeds without using chemicals. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you! :-)

It depends on the weed and where it is. And, you should try to ID the plant before pulling it up.

If the weed is in a garden bed, you can dig/pull it up. Plants with long tap roots like dandelions or creeping type roots like mint have to be removed entirely. Try to get them early.

Some weeds like bindweed (we call it morning glory where I live) really have to be removed completely also or will just grow back. Same with creeping buttercup, which has almost driven me mad.

If you have weeds in a gravel or paved area, pouring boiling water on them can work.

I have a tool with a long handle that will pull dandelions out of the lawn whole. I also use it on the buttercup but they are more difficult as they spread with runners.

Good luck with your gardening journey. You will become more confident as you go.

Thanks for your reply! The weeds are in the area where I want to put a lawn. I have heard about paper to cover the lawn which kills them? Do you know anything about that? Very excited about finally having a nice garden!
