New bed idea - help me please!

I have a new bed which is u shaped and about 4m long and maybe 1 1/2m depth. I was thinking about white hydrangeas, lavender and alliums but struggling to know what else to put in. The long bit goes against a fence so trying to cover it would be good.

So if you had a blank sheet, what would you do?

For a fence, I’d definitely look for a honeysuckle of wysteria (if you like whites/purples) to climb on a big trellis against it. Both smell incredible

You could put heather for ground over, more bulbs in there (iris come in gorgeous purple), gladioli for summer Flowering bulbs which looks great in a clump. There’s so many possibilities! You need some flowering bushes like azealea so there’s some green in there in winter I’d say too

Or wysteria!*

It depends on the aspect of the bed, some climbers do better in the shade rather than full sun. Conversely, a climber that likes the sun will grow straggly looking for the light.
Penstemon ( not climbers) come in shades of purples and like a reasonably sunny position. Hebes are another purple/white flowered plant. Some varieties are low growing, but would not become rampant.

Penstemon really are great, I had a raspberry one going like the clappers right through until November.

Gaura lindheimerii is also wonderful. Very pretty, full of movement.

What soil do you have, and how much sun does it get?

Oh lots of good ideas- border is east facing and gets a reasonable amount of sun. I’ve got got a basket online ready with some of the ideas.
