What does I need to do with my lettuce?

This is my first year trying veg and salad in my glasshouse.

I planted lettuce seeds (pack said sow Jan/Feb) three weeks ago in a deep-plug seed tray and they’re starting to sprout.

My plan is to move them to my vegetable plot in April/May.

In the meantime, does anyone have any tips? I assume I need to thin out the little plants that are coming up now in the next few weeks to give the bigger ones a good chance? Will they have enough room if I move the individual plants into bigger seed trays, a new inches apart?

The greenhouse is large (16’ x 28’) and well ventilated with irrigation, but no heat.

They will probably need pricking out if they are in a seed tray. Wait until you see that they are getting big enough to prick out gently. They dont seem to mind being moved. I usually prick them out individually into a small plant pot, sort of yoghurt pot size, not large, then grow them on until they are at least 3 or 4 inches high. They transplant into the garden easily but...put them out too small and slugs will eat them. I also save 2 litre bottles which I cut in half to make mini cloches which will sit over a little lettuce plant and protect them.
Lettuce dont mind it being cool so dont give them too much heat, although I would probably cover with fleece if it was going to freeze.

Thanks @Janedownourlane, that’s great advice. Will start saving up plastic bottles for cloches- that’s a fantastic tip!
