Training star jasmine

I'm planning on planting some Trachelospermum jasminoides on our back fence, but not sure where to start with the training wires - should I have them horizontally 45cm apart, or does star jasmine need vertical support as well? (trellis on the fence isn't an option unfortunately)

We're planning exactly the same, so following with interest!

I have horizontal wires 45cm apart Smile

You could place them at 30cm intervals (the lower wires at least) to aid vertical growth. I tied a few pieces of garden twine to help the young plants establish.

Does the spot receive much sun? I found mine struggled to establish in shade but once it reached the top part of the fence (trellis) it grew about 10x as fast Grin

Thank you @GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat! I shall continue with my original plan and stop worrying about verticals Grin

Plenty of sun too. Can't wait for them to flower - I love the smell of them!
