Novice gardener - good resources?

We’ve got a square garden that is all lawn at the moment - it’s a good size for London but tiny for most other places I suspect! I have never done any gardening whatsoever but I’m on mat leave so feel like a stay at home project could be quite good for me and the toddler. Does anyone have any good books/online resource recommendations for garden design for dummies? Or any advice?

Pinterest has some lovely ideas for garden themes. If you key in Small Garden there’s lots of ideas to get you started.
Now’s the time to plot the passage of the sun each day or each month. This will help you decide where to plant and have seating etc.
Another thing you could be doing is to find out what type of soil you have. There’s internet sites that will help you.
