I need help deciding what to use as paths and a patio

I have about 16sq metres of paths and about 25sq metres for the patio. We had wanted to use reclaimed bricks but are looking at over a £1700 just for the bricks. It's a walled garden with a quarter circle patio and then two paths through a rose garden. The house is Georgian and Victorian so we had thought we woul go along with that but the cost is mounting up!! Please help with ALL of ideas. Tia

We were going to get ones from eBay and marketplace very cheaply but can't now with lockdown! So we are looking at £1 per brick plus delivery!

What about outlining the paths and patio with a couple of rows of bricks and infilling with gravel. There's some interesting designs if you google gravel brick path.

When you get to execution, I recommend www.pavingexpert.com
It's also good for looking at just about any path material you can imagine and seeing the uses and disadvantages.

Agree with MereDint about edging with brick but using something different for the body of the paths. I have a Georgian house and I’ve used Bredon gravel for mine. It’s often used in stately homes gardens because it is in keeping and also cheap for large areas. The gravel is self binding unlike pea shingle, so less likely to get kicked into your lawn, which is a big advantage. Weeds do like germinating in it though!

What is your house built from? I’m guessing brick, but if it’s stone take your lead from that. Indian sandstone is a good alternative to York Stone which is astronomically expensive. I’ve done a new patio in Indian sandstone and it looks like it’s been down years.

Finally, do consider good replica antique bricks. The previous owners of our house used them for a path here, and now that they’ve weathered a bit (been down a few years) you’d never know they weren’t original.

Your garden sounds lovely, by the way.

This is my replica reclaimed brick path. The wall is original.

Traditionally I think a cinder path might have been used in that situation.
