Now our tree is down the lounge looks empty so I was thinking about a tall (but not wide) pot plant to put in the place.

A swiss cheese plant is not suitable as it's going to be by a window where there is strong direct sunlight from dawn until mid afternoon.

We don't have cats or dogs so I don't need to worry about if it's toxic.

My main need is something easy to look after and is tall, growing to 5/6 feet.

Any ideas please?

Yucca? I barely water mine and it's massive

Bird of paradise?

My parents have a hibiscus in a similar spot and seem to treat it like their fifth child. In fact it’s possible it brings them more joy than we do because it flowers all the time.

What's the trailing one with variegated leaves that people grow up a coir pole? (not helping much am I?)

Devil's ivy apparently. Aureum.

A citrus?

I have quite a large variegated (and unhappy as I don’t think it likes it’s position) ficus. Which is very pretty. When not dropping leaves everywhere. I expect your window position would be nice for one

I have a Hoya, trained up a trellis. They are as tough as old boots, easy to propagate and have lovely scented flowers. Mine is 30 years old. They’re also known as Wax flowers.

Hoya, I bend the stems round to keep it smaller. No flowers at the moment, but will begin to come as the days get longer.

Hoya, Pothos or Philodendron trained up a moss pole would be my suggestion.
