This year don't put your tree out for the council, keep them for wildlife and your garden:

Ooh, last year I used my and my neighbours Xmas trees to build hugel beds and mulch my beds, which worked pretty well. I hadn't considered using it as a habitat first. I think I might prop mine in my third compost bin (3 bin system) so that the needles fall straight into the compost, and as they suggest hang bird feeders in it. There's tons of small birds that visit my garden who would appreciate it I'm sure. Exciting (and always happy to avoid a car full of pine needles Grin)
