Moss patches on lawn.

This autumn my lawn has developed several quite noticeable patches of moss. I’ve lived here over 15yrs and it hasn’t happened before. We have heavy clay soil.

Being home more this year we have used the garden a lot more and I have mowed it shorter and more frequently but they are the only real changes to normal use.

Learn to love your moss.

Yep. DH says cutting too short combined with heavy use which compacts the clay. Get it raked and spiked and use lawn sand in it early spring next year. It will go all black and will need raking out but new grass should fill it in unless a large patch which then just rough up the surface and top coat with fine soil and grass seed

Thank you :).

It was just strange that this is the first year it has happened. It obviously prefers its usual neglect 🤣.
