winter flowering shrubs

Do winter flowering shrubs need feeding while they're in flower? Specifically I'm thinking about sweet box and camelia sasanqua. It seems logical to me that they would

Most things growing in soil rather than pots don't need feeding anyway. One of the ways in which we are destroying the environment is an excess of nitrogen which is being washed into rivers and sea and destroying marine life.

But if you are going to feed - even though a plant is flowering in winter, it's not actively growing, so won't make much use of any feed that you apply.

Thanks that's a good answer. Both are new and in pots. I'm in agreement with you in general about the nitrogen, mostly I just use homemade compost or worm casts, but I do sometimes use seaweed extract for a boost on things that are recently planted.

If in pots, I wouldn't feed in autumn/winter unless the plant is actively looking hungry (eg yellowing leaves).
