Colourful evergreen border shrubs about 2m high.

Any suggestions welcome. I’ve got a low wall (about 1m high) on the left of my garden - it’s the neighbours wall which is about to fall down, but they don’t want to replace it. We’d like to plant some bush/shrubs along the wall to create more of a screen.

The sun rises at the end of the garden, travels along the right side and sets at the front of the house. The wall area is pretty much in full sun from March to November.

I love colour and flowers so something which is evergreen and has flowers too would be ideal. Also we have blackberries which grow along there in the late summer - which I love. So they would have to grow amongst them.

My parents used to have the most beautiful blue flowering tree/shrub in their old house but none of us ever knew what it was. Similar to a lilac but really blue?

Could the blue shrub have been a Ceanothus? I think it's a Californian Lilac and a bee magnet.

Yes, thank you that’s the one I remember.

Any other suggestions of bright flowering evergreen shrubs would be gratefully received. :)

Hebes might suit, not too tall growing, nice flowers, and some have coloured foliage. One of my favourites is x Halimiocistus wintonensis ‘Merrist Wood Cream’ which is quite low growing, with maroon centred cream flowers, but it needs a warm, well-drained spot.

St John's Wort? There's one opposite my house and it's been flowering all summer, still has a few on now. Pretty yellow flowers.

My favourite flowering evergreen hedging plants are escallonias and hebes. I also love potentillas (deciduous) and camellias (evergreen but so slow growing.. )

I have a choysia ternata which I grow in a pot , evergreen, scented white flowers quite early in spring, there is a yellow version which has bright yellow leaves. I also like sarcococca , evergreen but with scented flowers in late winter. Neither very showy but I do like a bit of scent!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ll have a google tomorrow and order some.
