Spring bulbs - am I too late?

Bit of a gardening novice here.
Second spring in 3 years in our house (we were abroad last year). Not a big garden but have two beds approx 5m long 1.2m wide. I planted some bulbs the first autumn we moved in but cannot for the life of me remember what really or where, so I'm mentally starting afresh. Am I too late for any bulbs other than tulips or later flowering? Crocuses, daffs, should I not bother this year? I dont have much of a scheme in mind but would like some early spring colour if possible, don't want to waste money though! Thanks

Tulips, perfect time to get them in. Ditto Alliums will be fine.

Daffs are tough as old boots, plants them, they'll likely be fine!!

I'm always late with mine and they always come up (daffs, hyacinths, tulips). I have had trouble buying them this year though, other than online. The garden centre staff told me a couple of weeks ago that they have had unprecedented sales this year.

Ah brilliant thank you both. Indeed sourcing bulbs might be the challenge! Local garden centre has sold out so I guess I'll be crossing my fingers to get them this month still online!

I planted some Iris (pixie) yesterday.

I've just ordered some from Amazon (daffs and muscari) so I hope its not too late. I think if you plant them before it gets frosty it will be OK.

B&M had loads in when I went last week and they are cheap as chips.

Cavagirl · 15/11/2020 09:00

Ooh brilliant thanks @NannyGythaOgg there's one only a couple of miles from me, I'll try that.
Has anyone used any online suppliers they'd recommend? Most of them seem to take weeks for delivery now, perhaps that's normal?

I recently ordered some bulbs from Crocus. I ordered on 7th Nov and they were despatched on 9th and delivered on 10th by Yodel. Lots of their bulbs quote 3-5 day despatch times. I think their bulbs come from a different warehouse, so get sent before the plants.

Oh amazing @BambooWhoosh thank you! That's far speedier than anything else I've seen!

I find the earliest spring colour is from Cyclamen coum - even earlier than winter aconite. (Not Cyclamen hederifolium which flower in the autumn and is already going over).

Cavagirl · 15/11/2020 22:59

Well I have just massively over ordered from Crocus and Thomson & Morgan, including some cyclamen coum - thanks for the tips @MereDintofPandiculation @BambooWhoosh
Now just to hope they arrive at a reasonable time & I can get them in the ground...and my beds will be full of colour all spring I hope! Thanks everyone!

Don't plant the cyclamen too deep, the tops need to be just breaking the surface.

@MereDintofPandiculation thank you Smile
