Can i buy a rose now?

Was thinking of buying one of those "name a rose" things as a housewarming for someone moving in in December. I guess they can't put it in the garden, can they grow it in their house until spring? Or shelve the idea?

They are low level garden skilled.

Thanks

Yes, it's a good time to buy. If it's bare-rooted, they'll need to plant it as soon as it arrives. If it's in a pot, they can keep it outside until they get round to planting it. They shouldn't grow it in the house - the warmth will encourage growth without enough light for healthy growth.

But I do wonder whether the idea is as good as it seems. These are roses that haven't been released on to the market and therefore are available for being sold privately. Any really good rose that the breeder produced would be named and released on to the market. It might be better to find an already existing rose with a suitable name.

Thanks! Will make a note
I've actually bought one for my dad before and it's doing well, I appreciate it's not going to be the most amazing roses but I just think it's a cute idea x

It’s the perfect tin to buy a bare root rose, but they’ll have to plant it now. Go on David Austin website and buy an easy care rose with a name that sounds apt.

I just got a 15% off code for David Austin:
OLIVIA.
Hope it saves you some money.
All my DA roses have been marvellous, I highly recommended them.

@KiposWonderbeasts thanks for the code! I've just ordered a Zephirine Drouhin and I'm very excited. I've been wanting a repeat flowering rose forever!!
Also - my kids and I love Kipo Grin

Aw, glad to share. I hope the rose brings you years of happiness.

(Aren’t the timber cats ace? And Dave slays us here)

@KiposWonderbeasts

The timber cats are badass, and I find them slightly camp which is amusing GrinGrin
