Took a walk in one of my favourite wall gardens but couldn't see the plant label. What is the shrub with the white flower & is the one with the seed pods Flag Iris?

Thanks

The white is a peony, probably a tree peony - you can see one of its leaves at the bottom of the pic slightly to left of middle, the other leaves are something else?
Don't know what the other one is sorry.
Tree peonies are truly divine and come in lots of colours and varieties. Here's mine. However, where on earth are you that a tree peony is flowering in October?

Yes the second picture is Iris

I'm in Ireland. I have herbaceous peonies but would love a tree peony but am told they are fussier than the herbaceous ones.

I've been extremely lucky with my tree peony, I had it at my last house and couldn't bear to leave it, so against all advice risked moving it when I moved - and it survived and thrived. It's at least fifteen years old now and still happily flowering ever year.
I'm stunned that there's one flowering in Ireland in October, but as you say it's a walled garden I'm guessing it's got itself a nice warm pocket and is sending out the odd out-of-season flower. Mine is against a west-facing wall. Never flowered out of season. Somerset.

I think this has been a strange year for flowering - I've had plants that flower only in spring, re-flower later.

On the hunt for a tree peony!

Good to hear Porseb. Everyone who needs a tree peony in their life should have one. Smile
Come back and tell me which one you decide to buy!

@Tamingofthehamster

If you’re interested in plants you might like the Picture This app.
Remember that apps don't have any botanical knowledge. They are merely looking at pictures and matching coloured patches. So they may be right, but when they're wrong they can be very badly wrong.

An expert will say "that's an X, I grow it myself" or "that looks like an X but I'm not sure" or "that's vaguely like X but I don't think it is because...". An app just says "That's an X"
