Advice about stopping creature from popping in our grass

I'm not sure if its a fox, or the next door neighbour's cat - but something is leaving deposits in the garden, nightly. They started by leaving them on the patio - which I washed down with dettol. Now its the grass.
I have to walk across the grass to get to the river where I show my son the fish - and I'm worried about stepping in it and bringing it into the house (have been clearing it up).

Will a sonar device for foxes work on cats if its a cat? and will a cat device work ok in a small garden without losing the neighbour her own cat from her own garden?

sorry, long ramble. With a baby in the house and one on the way I'm desperate to sort this out asap

Sounds like a cat, around my mums there is millions of the vermin and they poo everywhere. I think you can get something that keeps them away, can't think what it's called though...

I would suspect that the sonar devices for foxes would work on cats and vice versa (as long as you select carefully). How small is your small garden? I think the power of them varies, but I was just looking at one that covered 50 x 70ft - which isn't really that small any more. It will depend on what kind of boundary you have (the more solid it is the more it will shield next doors garden) but difficult to say without actually trying it.

How about the motion detectors that squirt water (here's one)? I don't know if anyone's tested them on foxes and other wildlife though. Might be worth calling them to ask.

Thanks Tangle. The garden is only 35 x 15 but I shall go to Homebase and investigate.
