Hanging plants that aren't easy to kill, for small shelf.

I have killed two ivies, by overwatering. The second one I waited a few weeks to water, making sure the soil was very dry, and used a lot less than half a cup of water. It just started to shrivel the next day.

The shelf space I have is around 15 cm high, less than 10cm wide so I need something to that will be ok in a small pot. I am desperate to fill this corner with a nice, full looking hanging plant and won't be content until I do.

Any suggestions for a plant that I can just water like a normal plant? The rest of my house plants get watered once every week or two, no need to check the soil, and have lived for years.

I would prefer something 'bushy' looking, which is why I went for the ivy in the first place Sad

A succulent of some sort

String or Pearls or String of Hearts or something?

Would the plant get much light where you want to put it, or are you looking for something that would thrive in a shadier spot?

Whatisapension · 22/09/2020 18:31

Probably should have mentioned that! I would say medium light. I have a couple of others in that corner as a peace lily and small palm type which seem to do well.

Kalanchoe didn't do well in the corner unfortunately, so I don't think the string of pearls and hearts would either.

Spider plant

Spider plants are almost indestructible.

Maybe a philodendron?

NanTheWiser · 22/09/2020 22:29

Tradescantia zebrina.

Thank you I'll take a look at those suggestions

Similar problem here, so I’ll also look at the suggestions. Thank you.

Tradescantia. Quick growing and very easy to propagate. Look great on a shelf.

Philodendron is fairly bomb proof
