Hi all what's the going rate please for basic garden maintenance, weeding, lawns etc? We're in the Cotswolds if that helps. Thanks.

About 15-20 pounds an hour in surrey and London for a knowledgeable experienced gardener.I get between 36 and 50 an hour as well for contracts on estates and these are usually from recommendations.Good luck.Just thought I'd way in before it turns into a mow and blow slagging off gardeners thread.

£30 I paid

I’m in Cheshire and pricing is similar to above. Initially they charged for the job I asked as there was more to be done and now it’s for general maintenance it’s per hour.

I'm not one with a massive garden or anything but it does get very overgrown and VERY weedy. I think maybe it needs repointing? I just cope with doing that I really can't. Worst job ever.
I only recently got someone to do it and the £30 was the best I've ever spent for me not doing that!

I'm in Yorkshire and pay £20 per hour

Thanks all - DH is setting up a little business doing this, but none of the local gardeners seem to advertise their rates. He knows about getting insurance etc and is a keen gardener so hopefully will get some work although it is coming up to winter.

I'm in London, £25 per hour. He's a proper plantsman who's been to horticultural college, young chap. Plus £10 to take the waste to the recycling centre.

20 an hour for the gardener that does my beds only, and 45 per hour to the guys (one who knows his stuff, with a helper who runs around after him) who do my lawn, sweep the drive, and bigger jobs.

I'm in Surrey.

I only use gardeners once a year to cut the hedges/trees/shrubs. They came yesterday, 2 of them & were here about 6 hrs. £350 , includes removing all waste & cutting hedge on neighbours side as well. I can't praise them enough, they do a fantastic job. They are also knowledgeable & will not cut anything at the wrong time.
